What is the Accidental Death benefit?

This is an optional add-on benefit in addition to your life cover. If the death of the life assured happens due to an accident, nominee will be paid this extra amount. E.g. If you take life cover of Rs.1 Crore and accidental death benefit of ₹1 Crore your nominee will receive ₹2 Crore payout on claim in case of death due to an accident.

What is the critical illness benefit?

This is an optional add-on benefit in which if the life assured is diagnosed with any one of the 34 critical illnesses covered, the life assured will be paid the critical illness benefit amount immediately at the first diagnosis stage without any hospital bills. Which means only a scanned copy of the diagnosis report is enough to raise the claim. Also, even if the expense incurred by the policy holder may be lesser, total critical illness benefit amount will be paid to the policy holder. Click here to view list of these 34 critical illnesses. No restriction of network hospitals since no hospital bills are required.

How to choose critical cover amount?

The critical cover should be bought considering your age, family history, type of job and inflation. You should take in consideration of average treatment charges, hospitalization charges and any loss of income due to illness. For e.g., Average cost of heart surgery in India is around ₹5 Lakh, Average cost of organ transplant is in India is around ₹20 Lakh, Average cost of cancer treatment is ₹20 Lakh. It is advisable to take critical illness cover of ₹20 Lakh.

How critical illness cover is different from health insurance?

Critical illnesses are becoming alarmingly common these days. Increasing treatment costs can cause financial drain to your budget. Critical illness cover can give you buffer with which you can pay off your liabilities and opt for a better treatment. Critical illness cover and health insurance are different in following ways: • Critical illnesses cover premiums are considerably lower than Health Insurance premiums • Critical illness cover can be taken for a longer tenure verses health insurance has to a 1 year tenure and has to be renewed year on year • Critical illness provides you lump sum payout of full sum assured on diagnosis report. In health insurance insured has to pay for the treatment and expenses initially and then register the claim along with medical bill for reimbursement.
